Every year our family explores at least one of Kentucky’s State Parks, and this year our mini-vacation was at General Butler State Resort Park in General Butler State ParkCarrollton, Kentucky.  The park is a little less than an hour away from our home in Northern Kentucky, which made for a nice and easy drive.  We spent three days and two nights at the beautiful Butler Lodge which overlooks the Ohio River.  The park has a lodge, cottages, mini-golf, hiking, bike trails, a pool, and of course the historic Butler-Turpin State Historic Home that you can visit.  And the General Butler State Park has great family events planned each weekend, some are free and some have a very minimal cost.  We did some cool crafts and played wacky mini golf, and I thought the prices were quite reasonable, plus the kids loved it, so it was a win-win.   We spent our days exploring the city, bike riding, swimming in the pool, reading books, playing games and eating great food.  It was a great little getaway, just what we needed to kick off our summer!

We were pretty excited to find out that this particular state park serves adult beverages in the Two Rivers Restaurant, and even more stoked to find out that Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale was a choice on the menu!  Three cheers for KY brews:
