York Street Cafe

Last week I had the pleasure of dining at the York Street Cafe in Newport with some of my favorite ladies. I have not been to York Street Cafe in years, and I had forgotten just how wonderful it is. Their seasonal menu offers unique dishes with fresh ingredients, and since we were all sharing bites of our food I can assure you that their food is delicious. I tried bites of several different appetizers, dinner dishes and desserts and I didn’t taste one single thing that I didn’t want to eat more of. This was an ideal set up for me, because I’m always the person who goes out to dinner and cannot for the life of me decide what I want to eat without asking the server for their opinion or even playing eeny meeny miny moe. Aside from the amazing food making York Street a great place to eat, the service is top-notch and the ambiance is one of a kind. The walls are lined with shelves upon shelves, covered with what can only be described as York Street’s “flair”. There’s everything there from Pez dispenser collections to Elvis knick knacks to the most random aquarium set up I’ve ever seen. I’d recommend York Street for an awkward first date setting, because even if you can’t find something to talk about with your date, there are a million different tchotchkes that around the room that can be used at conversation starters. It’s also a great place for girlfriends to meet up like I did, business meetings, parents wanting to escape for an evening, or even take the kids. It’s just an interesting place to have a nice dinner or lunch out. I should also mention that York Street Cafe also offers live music, has an art gallery, a lovely outdoor dining area, and next door is the York Street Mercantile which is a a stop you MUST make after dining at York Street. It’s a vintage thrift shop with the most interesting items for sale. I was just at York Street last week, but I’m already planning to make a visit back there again very soon!
